Amazon also told workers who will work from home to do so by June 2021

Multiple technology companies, including Apple and Facebook, have permitted their workers to work from home until at least early 2021

Amazon will encourage workers who can work from home to do so by June 2021, CNBC announced Tuesday.

“We want to emphasise the safety of our workers and follow the recommendations of local government,” said the Amazon spokesman in a statement. “Workers with jobs that can be done efficiently from home can continue to do that work from home until June 30, 2021.”

Bloomberg was the first to write on the expanded work of home reform.

Amazon follows in the footsteps of a number of tech giants who have expanded their work from home strategy to at least early 2021, including Apple , Facebook and Uber. Twitter also allowed workers to work “forever” from home if they wish.

The change pushes the timeframe for Amazon’s corporate workers, who have been operating from home since March, to come back to work. Previously, the organisation said workers could operate from home until January.

During the pandemic, Amazon’s performance activities functioned as a crucial company forcing warehouse staff and delivery drivers to return to work. The subject has been a source of contention for Amazon, as lawmakers and trade groups have protested the company’s handling of frontline workers in the amid of the coronavirus epidemic.

As of Tuesday, the U.S. reported more than 8.2 million coronavirus infections and at least 220,649 deaths, according to statistics collected by Johns Hopkins University.
