What can IT leaders do to improve the Digital Quality of Life of customers?

When I wear my added hat of a CISO and find India at 36th overall position in e-security on the Digital Quality of Life index, I strongly feel we should lead and implement the need to improve our compliance, standards and influence global focus

This is an exclusive interview conducted by the Editor Team of CIO News with Pushkal Tenjerla, Director- IT & CISO at CMS Info Systems on Digital Quality of Life of customers.

The Digital Quality of Life (DQL) Index involves a blend of Internet Affordability, Internet Quality, Electronic Infrastructure, Electronic Security, and Electronic Government.

Denmark topped the Digital Quality of Life Index 2021 globally, India was at 59th and is 17th in Asia.

Business revenues automatically tend to drive affordability, quality, and underlying infrastructure, but tend to shift focus away from security.

While customer-driven digital transformation will continue to influence digital business models with users happily allowing PII to get vigorously generated, consumed, and scattered all around, e-security continues to gain prominence in the CIA triad.

“We, as leaders in India, could encourage that the CERT-IN database be accurately populated, redistributed, and plugged into existing privately held two-way knowledge bases for better preparedness.”

Leaders must stop looking at each individual threat as it arises and instead build defences that are equipped to manage whatever cyber criminals throw at us. Continuous assessment and assessment of threats could remain as a prominent parameter of preparedness with an eye on not letting the guard down on DQL.

One area that all leaders could consciously look at would be adequate funding for cybersecurity and ensuring its implementation.

Each of us as leaders could enforce cybersecurity at various organisational levels and forums, revolutionising the industry and transforming security globally.

Board rooms need to see an increased presence of security leadership to ensure data and reputation are protected. The presence of a CISO on the board will help heighten awareness and ensure technical counsel is supplied and security is adequately represented.

A direct outcome would be enhanced focus on prevention of PII beyond intended use.

A tangible end result would be seen in the digital quality of life, with actors embracing digital technologies more confidently.
