Co-founder and CEO of Cashfree Payments, Akash Sinha, expressed excitement about Hota’s hiring, highlighting the insightful perspectives his broad banking and financial background will provide on governance and the formulation of strategic policies.

Abhaya Hota, a former RBI officer, has been named an independent director of Cashfree Payments, a prominent fintech company. Hota brings a wealth of experience to the table, having worked in the banking and payments industry for over 30 years, including a noteworthy 26 years at the RBI.

Hota had a significant influence on the development of India’s payment system while serving as the company’s managing director and CEO. His accomplishments include developing India’s domestic credit card program, RuPay, and introducing the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). He also implemented MICR technology for check clearing.

In addition to his work experience, Hota has a Master of Arts in Literature and a Bachelor of Arts with honors in Economics, Political Science, and English Literature. He has held a number of positions, such as managing director and chief executive officer at NPCI, independent director and chairman of the board at Federal Bank, and independent director and chairman at NSE Clearing Limited.

Co-founder and CEO of Cashfree Payments, Akash Sinha, expressed excitement about Hota’s hiring, highlighting the insightful perspectives his broad banking and financial background will provide on governance and the formulation of strategic policies. Sinha added, “Hota will be a great asset to the board and management at Cashfree Payments.”

Regarding his appointment, Hota remarked, “I am delighted to join the Board of Cashfree Payments India Pvt. Ltd. as an independent director and am eager to contribute to their growth and the expansion of India’s digital payments ecosystem.”

Additionally, Cashfree announced the appointment of Harsh Gupta, a former senior vice president at Razorpay, to the position of Chief Revenue Officer (CRO). Arun Tikoo, who was named Chief Business Officer (CBO) in May, will oversee the foreign business division, per a Moneycontrol article. Cashfree also appointed Ramkumar Venkatesan as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in addition to Tikoo’s appointment as CBO.
