As part of the current Cyber Surakshit Bharat project, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) organized a high-level “CISO Workshop on Cyber Security” through its National e-Governance Division (NeGD) in an effort to strengthen India’s cyber security framework. At the India International Centre, more than 250 chief information officers, deputy chief information officers, IT executives, and senior government officials attended the event.

S. Krishnan, Secretary of MeitY, opened the event by highlighting the importance of separate information security verticals inside organizations. He emphasized the need to strike a delicate balance between sharing threat intelligence, protecting confidentiality, and designing digital apps with security protections in place. “We must ensure that while protecting sensitive information, we actively share intelligence on cyber threats to safeguard digital infrastructure,” Krishnan said.

The “Cyber Swachhata” campaign was established by MeitY’s Additional Secretary, Abhishek Singh, who compared it to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan but with a focus on ridding digital networks of malware. Similar to disaster management frameworks, Singh emphasized the significance of including cyber crisis management into organizational planning.

The president and CEO of NeGD, Nand Kumaram, urged the attendees to actively interact with the newest developments in cyber security, such as artificial intelligence and zero-trust architecture, stressing the need for constant adaptation in both software and hardware for strong cyber defenses.

Savita Utreja, Group Coordinator for Cybersecurity at MeitY, provided important insights during the event as well. She emphasized the need for CISOs to be appointed in all organizations in order to proactively address threats, identify vulnerabilities, and improve resilience throughout India’s digital ecosystem.

Since its launch in 2018, the public-private CISO training program has been a great success, training over 1,662 people in 45 sessions. The objective of this program is to provide leaders in the government and industry with the requisite tools to protect India’s digital infrastructure from a constantly changing array of cyber threats.

Senior officials were able to explore emerging cyber challenges at the CISO Workshop, which also reaffirmed India’s commitment to creating a secure and resilient digital landscape.
