Hero MotoCorp CTO Arun Jaura resigns, R&D function to be headed by Vikram Kasbekar

“I wish to pursue other opportunities outside the company. I truly value my experience in Hero and I am grateful for the opportunities I have had to contribute to its success,” Arun Jaura said in his letter of resignation.

Hero MotoCorp has said that Arun Jaura, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), is leaving his role to focus on personal projects. It is going to take effect on April 30, 2024. The business also disclosed that Vikram Kasbekar has been elevated to the position of head of the R&D department.

Arun Jaura joined the company two and a half years ago in 2022 and has played an active role in expanding the company’s portfolio. “During his tenure, the company successfully launched several products, significantly enhancing our product offerings to customers in both the Indian and global markets,” the company said in a regulatory filing.

One of the most notable aspects of Dr. Jaura’s tenure at Hero MotoCorp—which has also introduced five motorcycles and an ICE scooter in the last two years or so—is the company’s foray into the electric vehicle market with the Vida scooter. The Hero MotoCorp Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT) presently employs over a thousand engineers, an increase of several hundred during the last two years. Approximately one thousand patent applications have reportedly been filed by the CIT team.

“I wish to pursue other opportunities outside the company. I truly value my experience in Hero and I am grateful for the opportunities I have had to contribute to its success,” Arun Jaura said in his letter of resignation.

Vikram Kasbekar, in addition to his existing role as Head of Global Product Planning, will assume the responsibility of leading the R&D function. “An Executive Director on the HMCL Board, Vikram possesses extensive experience across R&D, product planning, and manufacturing operations. Vikram previously led this function and oversaw the smooth and successful transition from BS4 to BS6 emission standards,” the company added.
