I believe my tech background, business focus, and continuous learning attitude helped me to be here in this role, says Pushkal Tenjerla, Director-IT & CISO at CMS Info Systems

“In terms of challenges, I would consider up-skilling and being abreast of technologies and trends an on-going challenge for anyone who wants to stay ahead in the game.” The only way is to focus on continuous learning

When asked how he planned his career path to be a successful Director-IT & CISO, Pushkal Tenjerla, Director-IT & CISO at CMS Info Systems, in an exclusive interview with CIO News, said, “Fresh out of engineering nearly three decades ago, like in any middle-class family, initially I took up roles that came knocking.” In a few years, I did a specialisation in networking (Novell at that time) and found that networking was my calling.

My international career stint exposed me to multi-cultural mind-sets and their nuances. I also came to realise that a master’s degree would help me further and I had to choose between technology masters or business masters. I chose the latter.

I believe my tech background, business focus, and continuous learning attitude helped me to be here in this role. I have a passion for cyber-security and that adds value to my role.

Remember that up-skilling and staying relevant are the keys.

When asked about challenges he faced in his career path and how he overcame them, he said, “In terms of challenges, I would consider up-skilling and being abreast of technologies and trends, an on-going challenge for anyone who wants to stay ahead in the game.” The only way is to focus on continuous learning.

When asked about challenges faced by IT leaders today while implementing digital technologies, he said that skilled resourcing is in short supply, fast changing technologies, and catch-up games with the bad guys in the cyber-security area are the challenges.

When asked how IT leaders can overcome the challenges faced, he said that for skilled resources, out-sourcing and in-house training investments are the keys. For cyber-security, ensuring best practises is the key, along with constant vigilance.

When asked about best practices, industry trends, or advice he would like to suggest to fellow technology leaders for their successful professional journeys, he said:

  • AI/Low code/Cyber-security focus
  • Customer experience is the key
