Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) took down 60,000 online contents linked to cybercrime

Under Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology Act, the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) has been taking action against up to 60,000 online contents that are perpetrating cybercrimes since March 2024. Rajesh Kumar, the CEO of 14C, revealed on Tuesday.

According to information, I4C has so far disabled 709 applications, 6 lakh mobile numbers, and 1.1 lakh IMEIs connected to various cybercrimes.

According to I4C officials, malware hashes and dangerous programs are shared with IT intermediaries like Google, Facebook, and others in order to safeguard the public from these kinds of cybercrimes.

As a result of actions taken by its citizen financial cyber fraud reporting and management system (CFCFRMS) in response to complaints received through the national cybercrime reporting site and the national cybercrime helpline, 14C has also assisted in saving Rs 2900 crore from being defrauded, benefiting over 8.1 lakh victims.

The CFCFRMS, which detects cyber thefts in real time and warns banks and financial institutions to stop the stolen money from reaching the criminals, has up to 335 banks and financial institutions on board.

I4C’s major achievement this year was dismantling an international human trafficking ring in Cambodia, where 600 Indian citizens were brought back home after being seduced by the promise of 11 jobs, forcing them to commit frauds and cybercrimes. The operation was carried out in cooperation with the ministry of external affairs and several state police forces.

The I4C CEO revealed that 66,000 calls were made to the “1930” helpline per day during the organization’s inaugural foundation day ceremony on Tuesday.

Besides, he added, “around 1500-2000 mule accounts are identified by us on a daily basis, and information related to them is shared with the banks (for action).”

374 cybercrime assessments have been distributed with various ministries, departments, agencies, intermediaries, regulators, etc., according to a presentation given by Kumar. Concerned stakeholders were also provided with 412 daily digests and 179 cybercrime advisories.
