According to a study, LinkedIn has been collecting user data to improve its generative Al products without amending its terms of service. The report also claims that the business has promised to make adjustments to its policies soon.
LinkedIn confirmed using the data, according to a report. Linkedin has been rolling out numerous Al features to premium customers. It further stated that numerous LinkedIn users had discovered a setting indicating the Microsoft-owned network is enhancing its generative AI with user data.
Additionally, rumors indicate that the social network secretly began using user data to develop generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) models; by default, this feature is turned on. This indicates that Microsoft, LinkedIn, and its “affiliates” are using data from all or some of LinkedIn’s millions of users to train their GenAl models to complete tasks.
Which data does LinkedIn use to train its AI models?
LinkedIn claims that in order to assist users with its new Al features, it may use their personal information. When you use the Al to assist with writing, for instance, it will read what you enter and provide ideas. LinkedIn additionally monitors user behavior with these AI tools, including language select as well as any comments they may have.
According to LinkedIn’s “LinkedIn and generative AI (GAI) FAQs,” the company “seeks to minimize personal data in the data sets used to train the models, including by using privacy-enhancing technologies to redact or remove personal data from the training dataset.”
LinkedIn further states that it will retain user-provided data and any content generated in response until the users remove it.
How to opt-out
Users of LinkedIn can also choose not to have their personal information used for training. To do it, users can:
- Open their account settings and select the Data privacy option.
- To locate the toggle, click “Data for Generative AI Improvement.”
- To opt out, turn it to “off.”
