MeitY introduces the national blockchain framework and Vishvasya blockchain technology stack to improve digital trust and service delivery

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) of the Government of India has introduced the Vishvasya-Blockchain Technology Stack, a historic step toward advancing digital infrastructure and promoting transparency. This all-encompassing project presents Blockchain-as-a-Service (BaaS) by means of a globally dispersed infrastructure intended to facilitate a range of permissioned blockchain applications.

Several other significant elements were also introduced at the launch event, which was chaired by MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan. These included the National Blockchain Portal, Praamaanik, a state-of-the-art blockchain-enabled solution for authenticating the origins of mobile apps, and NBFLite, an inventive lightweight blockchain platform.

Enhancing digital trust, security, and transparency in citizen-centric applications is the goal of the National Blockchain Framework (NBF). This framework includes enhanced security, privacy, and interoperability safeguards along with distributed infrastructure, smart contracts, API gateways, and core framework functionalities. It is hosted across NIC Data Centers in Bhubaneswar, Pune, and Hyderabad and is presently backed by two permissioned blockchain platforms. It is also designed to be expandable.

MeitY has also unveiled NBFLite, a blockchain sandbox platform designed for startups and educational institutions that aims to facilitate quick application development, research, and capacity building in support of innovation and research. Under the direction of MeitY, C-DAC, NIC, IDRBT Hyderabad, IIT Hyderabad, IIIT Hyderabad, and SETS Chennai have worked together to create these technologies.

Krishnan underlined at the event the significance of the National Blockchain Framework in giving individuals access to safe, open, and reliable digital services. To establish India as a global leader in blockchain technology and promote social progress, economic expansion, and digital empowerment, he urged stakeholders to take advantage of these new technologies.

MeitY’s Additional Secretary Bhuvnesh Kumar emphasized how blockchain technology has the ability to revolutionize governance. He advocated for the NBF applications to be scaled across departments and states, and he supported the NBF stack’s unique components and new applications being explored.

A major advancement in India’s digital progress, the Vishvasya Blockchain Technology Stack and the National Blockchain Framework promise improved security, transparency, and service delivery for the people of the country.
