Meta Platforms stated that it was expanding its range of generative AI advertising products to include tools for autonomously building photo versions and overlaying text on them.

Meta Platforms (META.O), the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, announced on Tuesday that it was expanding its portfolio of generative AI advertising products to include tools for automatically creating versions of photos and overlaying text on top of them.

The tool will be released in test form without the watermarks that the social media firm currently applies to all photographs generated by its user-facing Meta AI helper, which it has marketed as a vital safety feature, officials said at the at the conference.

Google, another digital advertising powerhouse, announced a similar extension of AI ad technologies in February. Google announced that ads made with its tools would be branded with the SynthID watermarking technology developed by its AI research unit, DeepMind.

Advertisers can use Meta’s image production tool to input photographs of their products and generate multiple variations of those images, such as changing the orientation of the objects or showing people using them in different circumstances.

It is also improving its text-generation capabilities for headlines and key selling points, as well as introducing the ability to overlay text directly on created images.

Advertisers have hurried to embrace AI ad solutions that automate campaign placement in front of various user categories, but they have been wary of newer generative AI tools.

Some brands are concerned about how tech companies will use any photographs they provide to enhance models, fearing that their logos or other intellectual property would appear in images generated by others.
