Japan’s SoftBank Group is in talks to acquire the artificial intelligence (AI) chipmaker Graphcore.

Japan’s SoftBank Group (9984.T) is in talks to acquire artificial intelligence (AI) chipmaker Graphcore, it was reported on Wednesday, citing sources.

The two corporations’ months-long negotiations have lately advanced, but the financial parameters of the deal have still to be determined, according to the report, and talks could yet collapse.

Last year, UK-based Graphcore stated in a prediction through 2027 that it needed to raise funds to break even as Nvidia’s dominance in AI hampered funding for startups looking to compete directly.
