Technology leaders must enhance knowledge transfer and technical managerial training, as well as build a trusted relationship with vendors who will help towards achieving the business delivery goals
When asked how he planned his career path to be a successful Chief – Information Technology, Sohaib Alabdi, Chief – Information Technology at the University of Bahrain, in an exclusive interview with CIO News, said, “My career has been built on both academic and professional certificates related to the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) field, combined with a build-up of expertise from work experiences based on ICT infrastructure, applications, cyber-security and networking, cloud-based and SaaS platforms.” Furthermore, hands-on management and operation, as well as decision-making aimed at a strategic decision affecting the organization’s business delivery, are required.
When asked about challenges he faced in his career path and how he overcame them, he said that, as in any career in business organizations, there should be several challenges related to different areas such as knowledge, people, tools, and power. For each kind of challenge, a suggested scenario shall be proposed based on the case itself. Challenges should be treated case by case using the available resources within a given circumstance.
When asked about a cyber-attack or any security incident faced by his current organisation and how he tackled it, he said, “Any organisation has always been targeted, as the attacks now are machinery-based and smart to achieve maximum attacks.”
When asked how his organisation geared up in terms of technology in the COVID times, he stated that the environment had been prepared for about four years, as the staff had been empowered with a digital environment as well as the necessary training and preparations, executing the transformation process aiming for a fully automated paperless environment.
When asked about technology solutions and innovations he plans to implement in the post COVID era, he said it has been targeted to perform a cloud-based server-less solution, which will reduce the operation and allow more focus on enhancements and developments to deliver maximum business output.
When asked about challenges faced by technology leaders today in a similar industry while implementing digital technologies, he said, “The knowledge of transformation is a challenge, as is the lack of trusted vendors.”
When asked how technology leaders can overcome the challenges faced, he said technology leaders must enhance knowledge transfer and technical managerial training, as well as build a trusted relationship with vendors who will help towards achieving the business delivery goals.
When asked about best practices, industry trends, or advice he would give to fellow technology leaders for their successful professional journeys, he stated that business delivery enhancements should always be aligned with ICT improvements.
