The Nigerian Customs Service, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Ports Authority, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and other law enforcement organizations have been instructed by President Bola Tinubu to step up their efforts to combat cybercrime and international auto theft.

Following the recent transfer of 53 vehicles and $180,300 to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police by the EFCC in response to cybercrimes impacting two Canadian residents, Tinubu issued his decision. The president said that a strong and coordinated effort is needed to combat organized crime, and he applauded the cooperation between Nigerian and foreign law enforcement.

Tinubu reaffirmed in a statement signed by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, his Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, that Nigeria will not be the destination for stolen automobiles or illicit cash from other nations. He called on anti-corruption organizations to safeguard the nation’s financial and economic integrity and underlined the significance of denying criminals their illicit riches.

In accordance with Nigerian legislation and international accords, Tinubu further promised to protect the value of seized assets for the good of the nation, society, and the victims. He gave his word that Nigeria will keep working with international partners to combat cybercrime, transnational organized crime, and money laundering.
