A new robotaxi unit was unveiled by Amazon.com. Zoox announced on Wednesday that it would begin testing driverless vehicles in Austin, Texas, and Miami.

Amazon.com unveils a new robotaxi unit. On Wednesday, Zoox said that it would be launching its autonomous car tests in Austin, Texas, and Miami. These would be the company’s first trial locations outside of the West Coast.

According to a statement from the company, Zoox will station its test fleet of modified Toyota Highlanders with human safety drivers in constrained locations close to the two cities’ commercial and entertainment zones.

Zoox has been testing its self-designed autonomous cars in California and Nevada. The cars seat four people, two of whom are facing each other, and are constructed without pedals or steering wheels. The disclosure coincides with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) inquiry into 500 automated driving system-equipped Zoox vehicles following two collisions. The fourth and fifth public testing sites for Zoox will be in Austin and Miami. The company has already opened operations in San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Seattle.

After its first debut in its target markets of Las Vegas and San Francisco, Zoox stated it will not be providing public rides in Austin or Miami at this time, but it is looking into a number of cities for commercial offers. In addition to Zoox, other self-driving robotaxi businesses that have been the subject of NHTSA investigations about the performance of autonomous driving cars include General Motors (GM.N.), which opens the new tab Cruise, and Alphabet (GOOGL.O.), which opens the new tab Waymo.

Cruise announced on Monday that it has restarted operations in Dallas, Texas, using a limited fleet of human drivers. The company had previously suspended operations following an October of last year incident involving one of its robots in San Francisco.
