Sage, a British software company, revealed that it will launch a generative AI-powered assistant in April to help its small business customers.

Sage, a British software company, announced on Tuesday that it will debut a generative AI-powered assistant in April to assist its small business customers in automating typical operations such as invoicing and pursuing delinquent payments.

Chief Executive Steve Hare stated that Sage Copilot was created to access a customer’s own data, such as supplier information, as well as particular public sources, such as government tax documentation, to verify its reliability.

He stated that Sage Copilot would be implemented across the company’s accounting, payroll, and HR software this year.

Sage collaborated with Microsoft, Amazon, and others to develop the technology, but all customer data would remain on Sage’s private network.

“We’re trying to train our model to be narrower and more focused, rather than go broad and look at everything,” he added.

“With all the hype that’s going on, we want to produce real solutions for real people, where we can say, ‘Look, here’s something that’s an everyday bugbear for you, and we’re going to automate that’.”

Sage, which supports about 6 million small and medium-sized enterprises, has seen its stock price climb by 60% in the past year.
