Technology leaders need to be very proactive while selecting the correct solution based on the business requirements and need to be more realistic about the timelines
This is an exclusive interview conducted by the Editor Team of CIO News with Gaurav Vyas, Head Of Information Technology at Jekson Vision Pvt. Ltd.
How did you plan your career path to be a successful technology leader?
The career path may vary at different stages of life. I was not aware of anything when I started my career as a desktop support engineer with Accel Frontline, and with the blessing of God, the goal has changed. We need to be more focused on our goal, and I do believe in PPT (people, process, and technology), which helps me become a successful technology leader.
Continued learning and leaving the comfort zone are the key factors behind growth.
What challenges you faced in your career path and how did you overcome them?
The biggest challenge was with me, as I do not have anybody as my mentor who helped me in my professional career. The last 12 years I worked at the top of the department were tough, as well as a great opportunity to learn many things and become a decision maker.
What are the challenges faced by IT leaders today while implementing digital technologies?
It’s how to balance business growth, customer or user acceptance, and profitability. Any change is very difficult for IT leaders to convey to management or customers; users and customers are not ready to leave their comfort zones, and management is always concerned about the ROI.
How can IT leaders overcome the challenges faced?
Technology leaders need to be very proactive while selecting the correct solution based on the business requirements and need to be more realistic about the timelines.
This journey will start once the management is convinced and the business benefits are sorted out; all other challenges will be overcome by the people’s acceptance.
Any best practices, industry trends, or advice you’d give to fellow technology leaders to help them succeed professionally?
Learning, dreaming big, and having a thirst for knowledge are all important throughout life, but most importantly, as technology leaders, we should love what we do and do what we enjoy. Success will automatically follow us.
