World Environment Day: Experts weigh-in on balancing the symphony of mother nature and Technology

On World Environment day Industry experts shed light on how we can maintain a balance so that we have greener tomorrow.

Every year on 5th of June, we are reminded of the wonder of nature and the necessity of safeguarding it on World Environment Day. Are we able to safeguard the world? Will our offspring be able to breathe fresh air or drink clean water? Global warming is concerning everyone today.

If you look back in history, the stories of resiliency and interdependence have created a sense of commitment to safeguarding the delicate ecosystem by promoting balance and harmony between nature and humanity. However, in this digital age, are we able to maintain harmony? In this digital age where every convenience is available at the tip of a finger, however, this causes carbon emissions, which harm Mother Earth. We can pledge to restore and erase the scars of air pollution and carbon emissions, which contribute to climate change, deforestation, and climate change, and stoke the flame of environmental consciousness by working together. We must work together to protect our holy planet while fostering the seeds of transformation inside of us.

Since technology professionals are so critical in determining our future, World Environment Day is a significant day for them. It encourages collaboration and knowledge exchange, acts as a reminder of how interdependent technology and the environment are, and piques the interest of technology professionals. It also acts as a call to action, urging people to consider the effects of their inventions and work towards sustainable methods. In order to create a sustainable future where technology and nature coexist peacefully, it inspires them to make the most of their abilities, expertise, and influence.

Here are few experts from the world of technology who has shared their diverse take on World Environment Day and Technology:

Kunal Nagarkatti, CEO, Clover Infotech said, “The world has realized the importance of moving to renewable sources of energy. Across all aspects of life from travel to power consumption to industrial usage and smart cities, there is a very strong thrust on adopting ‘green’ technologies. Our government has introduced many favourable policies to ensure that green technologies are embraced by all. At Clover Infotech, we have been using our resources judiciously and have been designing processes to optimize the consumption of electricity, water, paper, etc. We have moved our own financial systems to the cloud in our endeavour to reduce the per-user carbon footprint. We have been accredited with the relevant ISO certifications for our ESG practices. As a responsible corporate, we have been publishing our ESG report to our customers as well. I believe every organization and individual must leverage the power of new-age digital technologies to accelerate India’s mission of attaining carbon neutrality and creating a more sustainable, equitable, and prosperous future for all.”

Rajesh Kabra, Managing Director, RR Parkon “World Environment Day serves as a powerful reminder of the need to safeguard our planet from pollution and the devastating effects of climate change. As pioneers in the automated car parking industry, we recognise our responsibility to contribute to global efforts to preserve the environment. Our smart parking systems have a profound and positive impact on reducing carbon emissions and mitigating environmental degradation. By revolutionising how we approach parking, we address the pressing challenges of urbanisation, resource depletion, and air pollution. Our solutions not only provide efficient and secure parking spaces but also prioritise eco-friendly practices. By optimising parking space utilisation and reducing idle driving time, our smart parking systems help minimize traffic congestion and its associated environmental harm. Let us seize this opportunity to inspire change and make a lasting difference. Through embracing innovative solutions, we can pave the way for a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future. Together, let us make every day an ‘environment day’ and preserve our planet for generations to come.”

Paneesh Rao, Global Head of Sustainability, LTIMindtree “The drive to protect and preserve our planet cannot happen in silos. It must be a collective effort that brings together societies, corporations, governments and NGOs for the greater good of humankind, the planet and business. To that effect, concerns around environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and the ways to address these have become key considerations for corporations across all industries.

At LTIMindtree, we believe in being accountable to the community we live in and leave behind. It is our constant endeavor to be a trusted digital transformation partner to our customers and a socially and environmentally responsible organization. Our combined focus on growth and sustainability has helped us build long-term value for all stakeholders. Our efforts — ranging from minimizing our climate impact and optimizing our use of natural resources, to driving greater diversity and inclusion in our ways of working — clearly demonstrate the importance we place on sustainability and speak to how we have integrated ESG into our business.

From the perspective of Environment, our efforts continue to be focused towards becoming carbon neutral by reducing emissions as well as deploying self-owned and self-implemented carbon offset projects. For Social, our thrust is on community development, skilling initiatives, and creating an equitable and inclusive workplace where employees feel welcomed, respected and empowered. Our governance efforts are directed towards building greater confidence and trust across our stakeholder ecosystem through resilient business, data loss prevention and digitalization, among others. We dedicatedly continue to track and measure against our commitments, with the motto of profitable growth and sustainable welfare, expedited with the highest corporate governance standards.

In concurrence with this year’s World Environment Day theme, #BeatPlasticPollution, we are happy to share that LTIMindtree has successfully done away with single use plastics 100% and engaged with authorized third-party vendor for the recycle of waste from packaging, etc. In 2023 alone, we have recycled 77% of our waste, and aim to move the needle on this effort to 85% in 2024 and 95% in 2025.”

Aurobinda Nanda – President, Operations & Deputy Chief Executive Officer, PES, Happiest Minds Technologies, “At Happiest Minds, we believe that mindfulness and sustainability go hand in hand in creating a greener future. As we celebrate World Environment Day 2023, we are proud to showcase our unwavering commitment to saving the environment through mindful practices. By fostering a culture of mindfulness within our organization, we encourage conscious decision-making and awareness of our environmental impact.  Through our innovative initiatives and conscious efforts, we are reducing our carbon footprint, embracing green energy sources, and promoting eco-friendly solutions across the value chain including suppliers. Our mindful practices prioritize resource efficiency, waste reduction, and responsible consumption, fostering a circular economy that minimizes environmental impact. From integrating green technologies in our operations to fostering a culture of environmental stewardship among our employees, we strive to be catalysts of positive change. We reiterate our commitment to stand united in our mission to create a brighter, cleaner, and happier future for generations to come.”

We ought to imagine a place where everyone may breathe fresh air, rivers flow clear, and hearts are filled with the sound of nature’s symphony. And we hope that by recognizing the intrinsic connection between technology and the environment, we can pave the way for the prosperous world that we imagine off.

Happy World Environment day!
