China's WuXi AppTec maintains it poses no national security dangers to the US

WuXi AppTec says that it posed no national security risks to the United States, despite lawmakers’ calls for sanctions on the Shanghai-listed company.

WuXi AppTec (603259.SS) said on Sunday that it presented no national security dangers to the United States, despite calls from lawmakers for sanctions against the Shanghai-listed company.

A bipartisan group of US congressmen recently warned top officials in President Joe Biden’s administration that WuXi AppTec’s ties to the Chinese Communist Party and military endanger US national security.

The United States Congress has sponsored legislation that would prohibit publicly funded medical providers from allowing biotech businesses such as WuXi AppTec to obtain genetic information about individual Americans.

WuXi previously stated that the company does not pose a security risk to any government.

“Our company firmly believes that WuXi AppTec has not, does not, and will not pose a national security threat to the United States,” according to WuXi AppTec.

“Even if the U.S. government reviews the company again, it will come to the same conclusion,” the company stated.

In a separate statement issued on Sunday, WuXi AppTec emphasized that it had no human genomics business and that its existing businesses did not acquire human genome data.
