Twitch co-founder Emmett Shear has been named the interim CEO of OpenAI, according to Sutskever.
Sam Altman will not resume his role as CEO of OpenAI despite attempts by OpenAI’s executives to negotiate his return, as communicated by co-founder and board member Ilya Sutskever.
Altman has decided not to rejoin the company he helped establish in 2015 following a series of discussions over the weekend with the board of OpenAI that dismissed him and with other company leaders and principal investors. Twitch co-founder Emmett Shear has been named the interim CEO of OpenAI, according to Sutskever.
Triggered by the board’s abrupt dismissal of Altman and the simultaneous removal of Greg Brockman from his position on the board of OpenAI, this turn of events may escalate a challenging situation.
Brockman, who stepped down from his role, was instrumental in the company’s achievements, and his departure was closely followed by three leading researchers. To competitors like Google and to a new project that Altman is reportedly developing, this series of exits may lead to a potential exodus of talent.
