A technology leader – Vijay Sankaran has been appointed as the chief technology officer (CTO) by Johnson Controls. The Ireland headquartered conglomerate produces security, fire, HVAC and sustainable building products. The company is on the mission to deliver sustainable buildings around the world and is updating its solutions with automation and new technologies.
Through the OpenBlue digital platform, the technology leader, in his new role, will be responsible for accelerating product software engineering development and expanding customer solutions. He will report to George Oliver, chairman and chief executive officer of Johnson Controls.
Sankaran is a seasoned technology leader who was most recently CIO at TD Ameritrade. With responsibility for digital strategy, software engineering, and technology operations, he led a team of 2000 employees.
He has over 20 years of experience working across the globe in a spectrum of industries. Prior to TD Ameritrade, Sankaran worked in Ford Motor Company for over 12 years and moved on from the role of CTO. He holds a B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and completed his MBA from Duke University Fuqua School of Business.
