I continuously learn about how technology is addressing the business challenges across industries. I also believe in experimentation, which helps me and my team understand the technology and its potential better

When asked how he planned his career path to be a successful technology leader, Maneesh Mahajan, Senior Director Information Technology at Jumeirah Group / Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts, in an exclusive interview with CIO News, said, “I believe this is the age of learning and reverse mentoring. One of the key reasons behind my successful technology leadership is the curiosity I have for business transformation and the passion to learn from everyone around me. I keep an eye on the latest technology trends and I continuously learn about how technology is addressing the business challenges across industries. I also believe in experimentation, which helps me and my team understand the technology and its potential better.

When asked about challenges he faced in his career path and how he overcame them, he said, “The biggest challenge I face in my career path is cross-functional teamwork.” I believe in an age where co-creation is the mantra of any successful delivery, it is the toughest challenge to manage a cross-functional team to deliver a common goal that is centred around our customer.

When asked how his organisation geared up in terms of technology in the COVID times, he said, “COVID has redefined the new norm for all of us within a very short span of time.” Considering the transformation in human behaviour within the organisation and outside the organisation, we focused all our energy and efforts on three parallel streams. 1) Mobile first, 2) Cloud adoption, and 3) Contactless experience

When asked about technology solutions and innovations he plans to implement in the post COVID era, he said, “Our prime focus will still remain only in two areas post COVID era.” The first is to enhance the guest experience, and the second is to automate the back-office operations. We are investing heavily on technologies like RPA, low-code, etc. to automate many business processes across different business units.

When asked about challenges faced by IT leaders today in a similar industry while implementing digital technologies, he said, “The biggest business challenge which technology leaders are facing is the “adoption” of the new solutions business processes by our colleagues.

When asked how IT leaders can overcome the challenges they face, he said, “It can be managed only through effective change management and by involving business users from the first day you start any initiative.” It is important that the business users co-create the product with you and see themselves as the owners of the product.

When asked about best practices, industry trends, or advice he would like to suggest to fellow technology leaders for their successful professional journeys, he said, “Continuous learning, collaboration, and co-creation is the only mantra to succeed in the digital age.”
