Information Technology: Government of Tamil Nadu constitutes Advisory Council for Future

The Council will guide Information Technology Department regarding IT/ITES promotion and facilitation initiatives, provide feedback on behalf of IT Industry, provide technical inputs, act as an independent think tank, enhance the Department’s public standing and assist the Department in designing strategic initiatives to achieve $1 trillion economy goal

Information Technology Department of Tamil Nadu has been in the forefront of IT promotion, procurement of IT products and services, e-Governance and establishing state-of-the-art IT infrastructure.

Government of Tamil Nadu has constituted Advisory Council for Future – IT Sector & Emerging Technologies to advise the State leadership for proactive policy changes that would enable the state to benefit from emerging technologies and promote innovation.

The Council will guide Information Technology Department regarding IT/ITES promotion and facilitation initiatives, provide feedback on behalf of IT Industry, provide technical inputs, act as an independent think tank, enhance the Department’s public standing and assist the Department in designing strategic initiatives to achieve $1 trillion economy goal. Recommendations of the Council shall be sent to the Government for it consideration.

First Meeting for Advisory Council for Future – IT Sector & Emerging Technologies was held on 22 November 2021 at Secretariat chaired by Thiru. T. Mano Thangaraj, Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology with following Advisory Council members:

The Advisory Council will review the existing ICT eco-system and discuss about the paradigm shift from services-driven growth to growth in product development. The council members recognized the need for focusing on Start-up eco-system and technologies such as Robotics, Gaming, Artificial Intelligence, Block-chain, Genetic engineering, etc. The need to Skill development and curriculum update to ensure the young workforce employability in the light of wider spread of Emerging Technologies was discussed. Improving Tamil Nadu’s readiness to adopt new technologies in hardware manufacturing was highlighted. The discussion on IT/ITES starkly highlighted the fact that all sectors and products are now Information Technology based with embedded software there was growing recognition that the growth in services sector has to be captured to achieve the $1 trillion goal by 2030.

The Council planned a roadmap to help Tamil Nadu to attract more companies and expand business in Tamil Nadu and create more job opportunities in Tier 2/Tier 3 cities, come up with the recommendations to boost technology innovation ecosystem.
