Kia Slovakia reaches five million automobile and SUV production milestone

Having been present in Slovakia for more than 20 years, Kia is a major employer, producer, and exporter in the area.

Kia Slovakia is proud to have produced more than five million vehicles. The five millionth car for Slovakian consumers was a hybrid Sportage SUV. Over 2.5 million Sportage models—which Kia Slovakia has been producing since the second generation—are among the five million automobiles made in Teplicka nad Vahom, Zilina. Ceed models, of which more than 2.1 million have been made, come in close second. Present at the local celebration was Marc Hedrich, President of Kia Europe, who stated, “We have tripled our share of the European car market in the last two decades thanks to the presence of our plant in Europe.” The remarkable triumph of the Ceed and Sportage models, manufactured in Slovakia, is quite commendable, since they have emerged as top-selling models worldwide.

“The success of the Ceed and Sportage models produced in Slovakia is proof of the quality Kia has managed to achieve,” said Marc Hedrich, President of Kia Europe. Currently, Kia Slovakia produces around 1,500 Ceed and Sportage cars per day, which are delivered to clients via truck and train. The UK, Germany, Sweden, and Spain continue to be Kia Slovakia’s top export destinations. Approximately 3,800 individuals are currently employed by the automaker, and their average tenure is 11 years.

More than 1,300 of the company’s present workforce has been with Kia Slovakia for more than 15 years, making it a dependable employer in the area for the past 20 years and a vital ally of Zilina and the neighboring towns and municipalities. The employees are the most highly skilled engineers with specialized knowledge of both assembly and machining operations, as they are the only automobile manufacturer in Slovakia with a recognized emission laboratory and engine production facility. For this reason, Kia leads the European auto industry in sustainability and innovation.

Over the past ten years, Kia has significantly decreased its environmental impact per car manufactured through a number of initiatives: 16% less electricity used, 35% less water used by reusing reclaimed water, and an additional 19% less CO2. Lastly, it’s important to remember that the Kia factory in Zilina runs entirely on renewable energy.
