Is serverless architecture a need for organisations in 2023?

Serverless architectures offer greater scalability, more flexibility, and quicker time to release, all at a reduced cost

This is an exclusive interview conducted by the Editor Team of CIO News with Pushkal Tenjerla, Director-IT & CISO at CMS Info Systems

What is a serverless architecture?

A serverless architecture is a way to build and run applications and services without having to manage infrastructure. Your application still runs on servers, but all the server management is done by the cloud service provider.

What is serverless, and why is it important?

Serverless is a cloud-native development model that allows developers to build and run applications without having to manage servers. There are still servers in serverless, but they are abstracted from app development.

AWS offers technologies for running code, managing data, and integrating applications—all without managing servers. Serverless technologies feature automatic scaling, built-in high availability, and a pay-for-use billing model to increase agility and optimise costs. AWS Lambda is a serverless, event-driven compute service that lets you run code for virtually any type of application or backend service without provisioning or managing servers.

Azure Functions is a serverless compute option. It uses an event-driven model, where a piece of code (a “function”) is invoked by a trigger.

What is the benefit of serverless architecture?

Serverless computing was created to solve the problem of allocating cloud computing resources. Serverless was created to address this issue by incorporating automation, which eliminates the need for users to predetermine the amount of compute resources required for their workload.

While server computing gives you more control and ensures unlimited access to your data, even with no internet connection, serverless computing offers several advantages over traditional cloud-based or server-centric infrastructure. For many developers, serverless architectures offer greater scalability, more flexibility, and quicker time to release, all at a reduced cost.

With serverless architectures, developers do not need to worry about purchasing, provisioning, and managing backend servers.

Serverless computing is more affordable, scalable, and time-efficient, as you can focus on coding instead of server maintenance.

Serverless is the future.
