“During COVID, everyone understood the importance of technology and usage also.” All generations, including the youth, played a major role in this

When asked about digital literacy and why does it matter, Rupendra Nigam, Head of Information Technology Department at Spykar lifestyles pvt ltd, in an exclusive interview with CIO News, said, “Digital literacy skills allow you to find, use, and create info on a real-time basis or online in a productive way.” Having an understanding of digital literacy means you’re able to use technology safely to help business in such a way that your team can take important decisions on time.

When asked about his views as an IT leader on digitally up-skilling the youth in the post-COVID era, he said, “During COVID, everyone understood the importance of technology and usage also.” All generations, including the youth, played a major role in this. For example, nowadays, a small kid also knows how to use technology.

When asked how the youth can be digitally empowered and what kind of exposure and engagement opportunities in the educational curriculum can educational institutes implement to raise the interest of youths to up-scale their digital skills, he said, as during COVID, many organisations or the education sector also grew or developed technology, and they are using it more effectively. However, this digital technology reduces writing speed on paper, which is required for youth to qualify in government exams such as civil services, etc.

When asked if it should become a must for schools, colleges, and other educational institutes to conduct workshops or crash-courses programmes to drive the importance of tech for businesses, he said, “Yes, it is a must for all.”

When asked his advice as an IT leader for the youth considering their career in the tech industry, what should they know about the industry before starting their career, what challenges they could face and how to overcome the challenges, he said, “My advice is only that they should use technology in a productive manner. If they have an interest in the tech industry, then they should enter into this area.” As in industry, if they are in a tech company, then it is good for their growth, but if they are in another industry, then it is completely different.

He highlighted that everything has a positive and a negative side. So, adopt it carefully and before doing anything, do full research on that area or technology.
